چکیده

We present measurements of the spatial clustering of ultraluminous infrared galaxies in two redshift intervals, 1.5 < z < 2.0 and 2 < z < 3. Both samples cluster strongly, with r0 = 14.40± 1.99h Mpc for the 2 < z < 3 sample, and r0 = 9.40 ± 2.24h Mpc for the 1.5 < z < 2.0 sample, making them among the most biased galaxies at these epochs. These clustering amplitudes are consistent with both populations residing in dark matter haloes with masses of ∼ 6 × 1013M⊙. We infer that a minimum dark matter halo mass is an important factor for all forms of luminous, obscured activity in galaxies at z > 1. Adopting plausible models for the growth of DM haloes with redshift, then the haloes hosting the 2 < z < 3 sample will likely host the richest clusters of galaxies at z=0, whereas the haloes hosting the 1.5 < z < 2.0 sample will likely host poor to rich clusters at z=0.

Luminous satellite galaxies in gravitational lenses

Substructures, expected in cold dark matter haloes, have been proposed to explain the anomalous flux ratios in gravitational lenses. About 25% of lenses in the Cosmic Lens All-Sky Survey (CLASS) appear to have luminous satellites within ∼ 5 h kpc of the main lensing galaxies, which are usually at redshift z ∼ 0.2− 1. In this work we use the Millennium Simulation combined with galaxy catalogues ...

The abundance and clustering of dark haloes in the standard ΛCDM cosmogony

Much evidence suggests that we live in a flat Cold Dark Matter universe with a cosmological constant. Accurate analytic formulae are now available for many properties of the dark halo population in such a Universe. Assuming current “concordance” values for the cosmological parameters, we plot halo abundance against redshift as a function of halo mass, of halo temperature, of the fraction of cos...

The evolution of clustering length, large-scale bias and host halo mass at 2<z<5 in the VIMOS Ultra Deep Survey (VUDS)

We investigate the evolution of galaxy clustering for galaxies in the redshift range 2.0 < z < 5.0 using the VIMOS Ultra Deep Survey (VUDS). We present the projected (real-space) two-point correlation function wp(rp) measured by using 3022 galaxies with robust spectroscopic redshifts in two independent fields (COSMOS and VVDS-02h) covering in total 0.8 deg2. We quantify how the scale dependent ...

The dependence of galaxy clustering on stellar mass, star-formation rate and redshift at z = 0.8 − 2.2, with HiZELS

The deep, near-infrared narrow-band survey HiZELS has yielded robust samples of Hα-emitting star-forming galaxies within narrow redshift slices at z = 0.8, 1.47 & 2.23. In this paper, we distinguish the stellar mass and star-formation rate (SFR) dependence of the clustering of these galaxies. At high stellar masses (M∗/M⊙ & 2 × 1010), where HiZELS selects galaxies close to the so-called star-fo...

Mass Accretion Rates and Histories of Dark Matter Haloes

We use the extensive catalog of dark matter haloes from the Millennium simulation to investigate the statistics of the mass accretion histories (MAHs) and accretion rates of ∼ 500, 000 haloes from redshift z = 0 to 6. We find only about 25% of the haloes to have MAHs that are well described by a 1-parameter exponential form. For the rest of the haloes, between 20% (Milky-Way mass) to 50% (clust...
